Isaiah Zagar is an American mosaic artist whose delicate artwork can be found throughout the city of Philadelphia. The artist was born in Philadelphia and raised in Brooklyn, where he studied at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City.
Just off of South Street sits Philadelphia’s ‘Magic Garden’, a place with a mission to preserve, interpret, and provide access to Isaiah Zagar’s unique mosaic art environment and his public murals.
The exhibit is breath-taking, with walls and ceilings covered in mirrors and tiles, while the mosaics outside towered high over the neighborhood. The mosaics glistened in the sun filled with wine bottles, broken glass and bicycle wheels.
Since 1994, Zagar and his wife have dedicated their time and effort to making the South Street sector shine again, and they’ve done a pretty amazing job.
